Rehabilitating Living Space

	This condominium client wanted to replace carpet on stairs. Due to heavy traffic, the carpet was always needing to be cleaned. I removed the carpet and hand crafted custom tile pieces to fit each horizontal step and vertical riser. The steps arrive on the natural toned travertine tile in the lower hall way...the travertine has a "sand" look to it.
	The client wanted the steps to amplify the Santa Monica Ocean theme throughout the home. I hand painted each step to give it an aquatic look. As you walk down these steps, it is as though you are walking on water.
	After hand painting each step, I glazed the art work and then grouted the custom tiles. The depth of the final finish gives it a 3-D type richness. I have done many of these types of jobs...the coloring options are endless. I have done many where the client wanted terra cotta tile but standard tiles would not be perfect for the area. I therefore hand crafted the tiles to fit and custom matched surrounding colors perfectly.
	To add an accent, I inserted a cobalt blue translucent glass tile and grouted around it. The diamond angle of the glass tile compliments the shape of the two main corner tiles at both turns along the stair case. This client was "happy happy" the stairs have become a focal point of the home.
